Fort Myers - Places To Go

On my 100 Things Project, I decided I wanted to go to Fort Myer’s, Florida, not really because I had the burning desire to just go to Fort Myers, but because two of my favorite people live fairly close to Fort Myers. These two people are Kerry and Oscar Bole. Kerry is one of my best friends who started out as a co-worker, and her son Oscar and I have been homies since before he was born. Kerry was pregnant with Oscar when we worked together so I’ve always felt like his unrelated Aunt. I was around Oscar so much when he was born that we have a running joke that he’ll fall in love with a blonde girl, who wears yoga pants, and her hair in a bun.

To say I was excited to go Fort Myers, would be an understatement. I was freakin pumped. This was my first time flying in 2020, and my first time on the Gulf side of Florida. I knew I would have a good time because of Kerry and Oscar…. cue the quote from One Tree Hill “It’s the people that make the place”, and I knew that’s how I would feel. Kerry lives in Cape Coral so that is where we stayed. We also went to Pine Island and to the beach in Captiva, Florida. I hope everyone has a friend like Kerry. She is older, wiser, taught me how to drink enough water, but most importantly has always encouraged me to be me fully supporting whatever dream I was chasing or boy I was chasing. Kerry and I can go months without speaking or years without seeing each other and always pick back up where we left off, as if no time has passed. It’s not a friendship that requires anything but love, kindness, and grace.

This trip was everything I love in life; quality time, tanned skinned, salt water, swimming (lots of swimming), and just soaking in the goodness of enjoying everyone’s company. We did the simplest of things… everyday life things, even work things, yet my heart was so full. Oscar had recently just gotten a dog whom he named Fluto. That’s another super awesome thing about Kerry, she let’s everyone be an individual and make decisions on their own, including her 5 year old son, Oscar being why the dog is named Fluto. I must admit, I did call him Pluto for the first day until I realized it was Fluto on his name tag. (LOL!)

While having our beach day in Captiva, we got caught in a large rainstorm. Typically, it would shower for a little bit then go away in the afternoons, but y’all this was a rainstorm. Kerry has a jeep which has the top off 90% of the time…. meaning it got soaked! We ate lunch while it rained expecting it to stop, but it didn’t for over an hour and the top was down on the jeep. This is another extraordinary thing about Kerry, she was so unbothered by it which is one of the many reasons I love her. My type A ass would’ve been having a mental breakdown if that was me, but Kerry laughed and we looked like wet dogs, but it was fun and an adventure. It’s always an adventure.

When I went to Florida, I knew I’d have a good time, but I didn’t expect to want to stay. There are very few places I travel, and think, “I could live here.” Well, plot twist, that’s what I felt in Downtown Fort Myers. There is a super cute area right on the water with tons of Townhomes and Condos. I have never wanted to live in a downtown area… ever (I’m an old soul), but this place felt so right. Who knows if I’ll move to Florida or if I’ll just think about the idea for many days, or months…. but I do know it would be lovely to be a Snowbird… Colorado in the summers, Florida in the winters. I really do think anything in life is possible so maybe this will be, too.

I hope you have somewhere planned to go that will fill your heart like this trip did mine. As always, thank you for reading.

XO,

Madison
