2021 Mantra & Word
Last week, I did a blog post sharing my 2020 word and mantra. I have a officially picked my word and mantra for 2021. I had been thinking about a few different options, but decided that these best supported what I want my 2021 to feel like and what I want to achieve.
My word for 2021 is, “Commitment” and my mantra is, “Do something your future self will thank you for.”
The inspiration for my word comes from a few different places. By definition commitment means, “the state or quality of being dedicated to a cause, activity, etc.” . I recently was listening to a book called the Secrets of the Millionaire Mind by T. Harv Eker which is where part of this inspiration came from. This book had alot of great information, but one part stuck out to me in particular. Harv was talking about how what separates people is commitment. He was referring this to being rich and being poor, but it got me thinking…… How many things in life had I partially committed to? The brutal truth is……. more than I would like to admit. Committing fully to something, means that there is a possibility to fall short, but my mentality of “it would be nice if XYZ happened” was already falling short. After about 10 minutes of really letting that sink in I thought, “Hey Mads, you probably should learn to commit to something fully” so that’s what I doing in 2021. I am committing to creating the life I want by going all in.
The other part of my inspiration for deciding on the word commitment is that I want my goals to be a reality and to design my future. I have been working on reasons why I want specific goals, and what I really want most in life is to have a positive impact which is what will happen when I reach my goals. (Notice the word will, fully committing here).
"Do something your future self will thank you for.” was also inspired from a few places. My friend Denton on a podcast interview with me in 2020, talked about how his boss says something like, “Don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today.” which is where this was inspired from. I have the tendency to say “I’ll do that tomorrow…. or I have plenty of time”. If 2020 taught us anything….. it should be that we definitely should NOT wait until tomorrow and that time is a nonrenewable resource. I am hoping having this mantra will help keep me on track, and aware that future me needs present me to do her best in order to create my future. I am sure this will apply to more things like doing the dishes, laundry, and house chores in general, but I’m sure it will apply in all areas of life.
I am putting my mantra and my word on my letter board in my office today. I will look at it everyday, as a reminder of how I want this year to go, and how I am going to create that.
I would love to know what you are working on in the New Year or how you are staying accountable.
As always, thank you for reading!
