Quarantine Fitness

At the beginning of Quarantine, I think I had a minor panic moment when I realized that I could potentially not be doing fitness for months… and it could potentially be changed forever. To you it might not seem like a big deal, but to me it was a big deal. Fitness classes and going to the gym over the last few years have been my outlet…. it’s my space to gain physical strength that in turn would help me gain mental strength. It also has been my way of getting out of my tiny apartment. As I have mentioned before, I work remotely so I really would never leave my place normally unless I was meeting friends or going to work out, whether it was a class or just the gym. I had a huge fear of the unknown. I have always struggled with my weight, my connection with food, and the need to always be working out. Not to mention, working out was also very much a part of my morning routine which keeps me in the right headspace to take on the day to the best of my abilities… it was a lot to take in.

Over these last few weeks, I have new found confidence in my abilities to work out regardless of circumstance. I also have drastically improved my relationship with over working out and my connection with food, but the connection with food is an entirely different blog post.

Working out is still part of my morning routine. Part of my morning routine is light, movement, hydration which means opening the shades, drinking a glass of water before any other liquid, and moving my body. During Quarantine, moving my body first thing during the day has been a 20 minute yoga class.

I have been doing a few different online platforms for working out. My first and absolute favorite is the Peloton App which is where my 20 minute yoga classes are from. I have found yoga to be a huge help managing my anxiety during these uncertain times, and it helps me focus on my breathing. I have done almost every type of work out the Peloton App has to offer…. outdoor running, boot camp, strength, cardio, stretching, and yoga classes. I have been trying to be very in tune to what my body needs and what I need mentally. If I am lacking motivation, but know I need to do a run outside, I use the app and just get lost in the workout even if I am not running super-fast, I’m moving my body. A couple other fun workouts I’ve been doing is Pure Barre, of course. The Pure Barre studio I work at has been live streaming classes to the members’ Facebook group which is so fun. I miss my Pure Barre friends so much so this gives me a workout and the friendships I am missing. My other fun online workout I’ve done throughout Quarantine is John Benton Fitness. I bought some of John’s workouts last year before Miss USA. He specializes in model fitness specifically hips and thighs. I have found this compliments well with my other Quarantine workouts.

One thing that has helped me stick to my fitness is scheduling it in my day, just like I did pre-quarantine. I am still holding myself accountable, but also having some grace and letting my body recover. I have also focused on what I can do instead of what I can’t do. Sure, I’d like to take a Pilates class or Orange theory, but that’s not an option right now so I have chosen to shift my mindset. As I’ve said before, shifting your mindset and pursing positivity in your routine can make a huge difference in your overall success, with fitness, routine, work, or otherwise.
