Why I started getting Botox in my 20s
I’ve been thinking about writing this blog post for almost a year now, and am just now am deciding to take the plunge. I remember telling my mom about my idea (sorry mom), and she said something to the effect of, “Well people are just going to judge you, no one is really that transparent.”. My response to her was, “Well then those people aren’t my people.”
What really inspired me to share all of this with you all, was competing at Miss USA and my most recent podcast about perception and reality.
As a young girl, I remembered watching Miss USA years before dreaming of being ‘that pretty, poised, and confident.’ Then yay! I made my dream come true, but I also learned a lot. After winning Miss Colorado USA, I learned what really goes into the beauty you see on national television. I decided it wasn’t fair for people to sit at home, especially little girls, and feel like they would never be ‘pretty enough’ to be the girl on the Miss USA stage or in the entertainment industry.
My last week’s podcast talked a lot about perception and reality, and I realized that what makes me drawn to people are the ones who are honest and open, not people who are always painting this perfect perception. This also applies when it comes to beauty.
Let me start by saying, no one makes you do anything you don’t want to do when it comes to your body.
I believe that when you are considering Botox or doing anything to your face or body that you are unfamiliar with, you should educate yourself. I have done various versions of Botox, and I prefer Botox. Automatically, when you hear Botox, most of the time people will think of fake or plastic looking people, but I’m sure if you knew the actual number of people who have had Botox you’d be shocked. I have just decided to share my experience and opinion with you.
I wanted Botox because I had deep wrinkles in my forehead and have since I was 17. I’m sure that’s because of my overly animated facial expressions, being in the sun a lot growing up on the ranch, playing softball, and just because of life itself.
When I would put my makeup on, I would lift my forehead to apply mascara and my makeup would go into the crease on my forehead and settle there…. hopefully I’m not the only one who feels like that is super annoying.
When I decided to start getting Botox, I wanted to make sure it was for all of the right reasons. The reason I wanted it was for me and my confidence. I didn’t want to do something because I thought I should. I wanted to do it because it was something I wanted to do. I really try to live my like that in general so Botox was no exception.
Typically, when I get Botox I get it done to my forehead and in between my brows. Every now and again I will get it done to my crows feet (area beside my eyes) because I don’t love how wrinkly that area is. When I get Botox, I don’t expect to look like someone else. I just want to look like the best version of myself, and I have also found that Botox helps my headaches. I have went to a few places in Denver, and my favorite place is currently moving more towards Aspen than staying in Denver…. which means if you have a great recommendation, let me know!
I receive questions on Botox and skin more than anything, so DM me if you want me to do a video the next time I get it done.
As always,
Thank you for reading!
XO,
Madison
