This past Saturday, Gab and I embarked on another best friend adventure….. Picking out her wedding dress. If you’ve followed along with me for a while now, you know that Gab is my best friend and has been for about 8 years. Her fiancée really is marrying both of us (LOL!). Anyways, this past weekend myself, Gab, and her mom went to help Gab pick out her wedding dress.

As the maid of honor (I really hope this is the only time I’m a maid of honor), I take this wedding and everything leading up to it very seriously. (LOL no surprise there). I really don’t know how to half ass anything so this is no exception.

I found it really nerve racking being the best friend because I really wanted everything just to be perfect. My hope was that we would go into Saturday and Gab would feel beautiful in everything. I know that as a female in the culture we live in, sometimes it’s so hard to feel beautiful even-though, we really are. The perception of ourselves is rarely what anyone else sees. I knew Gab would look absolutely stunning in anything, but I wanted her to feel that.

We had the most incredible experience and found the dress at the first place we went! YAY! What a success. As I knew, Gab looked beautiful in everything. I won’t reveal much about the gown, but the most important thing was Gab ‘s reaction in the gown. She was so excited… and so many happy tears were flowing. We found the gown at the Bridal Collection in Denver. We had the absolute sweetest sales associate whose name is Susan. I really think she made the experience for all of us. She was even tearing up when Gab found the dress. It was a super special moment for all of us.

If you’re a maid of honor or going wedding dress shopping soon, below are some tips I have put together from my experience.

How to Support Someone Picking Out a Wedding Dress

1.    Before going shopping make sure you know what this person likes and has envisioned. It is likely this can change, but at least you know the vibe of what they are wanting.

2.    Have an idea of photos that the bride will want on the day off. This can really affect what type of dress is purchased because a big princess gown is not going to photograph like a strapless or mermaid cut gown.

3.    Have an idea of what the bride wants to do with her hair day of. This could obviously change, but hair up or down really does affect how gowns look and the full effect of the gown.

4.    Honest feedback. The last thing you want to do is tell the bride she looks incredible in something she is having to “talk herself into”.

5.    Eliminate as much pressure as possible. It is likely that you may have to shop around or make multiple appointments. That is OKAY! Let the bride soak in every moment of trying on as many gowns as it takes.
