Lacking Motivation?

I think the most common question I get asked is, “How do you stay so motivated?” I’ve come to realize that my response and reasoning to that question are a lot longer than just a simple answer.

First of all, I am NOT motivated all the time.

Sure, I try to work super hard in my career, on my blog, on my social presence, on myself, on my relationships, on a few other things that I have not announced yet, but the reality is I am NOT always motived. There are a few tactical things I will share with you to help with motivation, but the most important things I have as tips can only come from yourself.

The only person who can truly motivate you, is you. No one is going to do the hard work for you, no one is going to make your dreams a reality for you, no one is going to make anything happen for you. The moment you decide that you are in control of your own motivation the closer you are to getting where you want to be. You have to be willing to take extreme ownership of where you are right now, where you want to be, and how you’re going to get there.

Like I said before, I do not feel motivated all the time, but I know my WHY, and so should you. You need to know why you are doing something. The deepest meaning of why you want something. Want to be rich? Why? Want to be famous? Why? Want to cure COVID-19? Why? If you don’t have a WHY that is pulling at your heart strings to do something, you will never be able to push through difficult times or times when you lack motivation.

If you know these two things and fully understand them, it will help your motivation, but still isn’t going to cure the days you lack motivation. If you lack motivation, get out of your head, you’re the only person that can stop you. Write down a couple tasks you can do that will help you move the needle towards what you’re wanting, then do those things…. Less thinking more doing.

If I get super unmotivated, I find a resource - meaning a podcast or a book that can hopefully help me find my spark for that day. I will sometimes even go for a walk with Hartli while listening to a podcast or book. I think being out in nature just opens up your senses a little more and Vitamin D is always needed….. with sunscreen of course. My recommendations for books when you are needing motivation are You are a Bad Ass, Girl Wash Your Face, and Girl Stop Apologizing. My podcast recommendations are The Skinny Confidential, Ed Mylett, The Rise Podcast, The Boss Babe Podcast, and GaryVee. All of these resources are options of something that might help you if you are stuck in rut and lacking motivation.

However, sometimes you might not find your spark, and you have to do things even when you aren’t motivated. For example, I haven’t felt like writing blog posts in almost a month, but I made a commitment to myself and to my audience to produce consistent blog posts so that is what I am doing even when I’m unmotivated. I also have my best friend that helps hold me accountable when it comes to my blog. She does all of my edits for my blog so she also knows if I am slacking off.

Chasing your dreams and going after what you want in life isn’t always easy, honestly it’s rarely easy….. but I know that at the end of my life I want to know I tried everything I wanted to, and put my heart into it fully….. No “What Ifs”

I hope these motivation tips help you if you are stuck in rut. If you have any tips you’d like to share, I’d love to listen!

Madison
